Income Protection Cover Calculator
Estimate the monthly benefit you would need if illness or injury prevented you from earning — and see what portion of your income that represents.
⚠️ Estimates only. South African income protection policies typically cap benefits at 75% of pre-disability income. Actual benefit amounts depend on insurer definitions, waiting periods, and policy structure. Consult an FSCA-registered financial adviser.

How This Calculator Works
The calculator estimates your monthly income protection benefit need:
- Maximum benefit cap — South African policies typically limit benefits to 75% of gross monthly income.
- Expense gap — monthly essential expenses minus any existing group benefit you receive from your employer.
- Recommended benefit — the lower of the 75% cap and your actual expense gap.
Waiting period vs premium trade-off
A 7-day waiting period provides the fastest benefit but costs significantly more in monthly premiums. A 30 or 90-day waiting period is popular among salaried employees with savings buffers or employer sick leave.
